A video, rewritten as a script

This is the script view of our demo video, a fictional cleaning gadget ad. A transcript tells you what was said. The script tells you where each line sits and what the viewer sees while it's said.

Product reveal0:06–0:09Scrubber pulled from a drawer, brush head clicks on, quick look at the extension pole.Text “cordless spin scrubber”“Then I got this.”
Demo0:09–0:18Three fast satisfying passes: grout, tub edge, stovetop, each cut on the moment the dirt lifts.“Grout, the tub, without bending over, even the stovetop.”

A transcript is not a script

Paste a transcript into a doc and you keep the words but lose everything else: where the product appears, how long the setup lasts, what text is on screen while the creator talks. That is exactly the part you need to film your own version.

The script view splits the video into beats (hook, problem, reveal, demo, proof, call to action and so on) and puts each spoken line under the beat it belongs to, next to a description of what's on screen. It reads like a shooting script because that is what you'll use it as.

How the script is built

We break the video down first: shots, transcript, on-screen text, pacing and the beat structure. Then each transcript line is placed in the beat where it starts, and the on-screen text of the shots inside that beat is listed with it.

Timings come from the video, so you can see proportions at a glance. In the demo above, the problem gets three and a half seconds and the demo gets nine. The short product videos we've broken down mostly share that shape: a hook that is over within the first few seconds, a short setup, and most of the running time spent showing the thing working.

What to do with it

Use it as a template, not as a copy. Keep the beat order and the timings, and replace every line and every shot with your own product, story or offer. Reusing someone's words and footage gets videos reported; reusing a structure is how formats spread.

If you sell something, you can skip the manual rewrite: sign in, choose Remix this video, and we write the script for your product on the same beats, with three hook options. It's free, up to 5 scripts a day on the free plan.

  • Copy the whole script as text into your notes or a doc
  • Film one beat at a time, using the on-screen column as your shot list
  • Match the timings roughly when you edit

How to turn a video into a script

  1. 01

    Pick a video that outperformed

Choose one that did much better than the account's usual posts. That suggests the format did the work, not the follower count.

  2. 02

    Paste the link

TikTok and YouTube Shorts links, up to three minutes. The script view opens first when the breakdown is ready.

  3. 03

    Copy the script

Press Copy script to take it into your notes, then swap in your own lines beat by beat.

Video to script questions

Which videos can I convert to a script?

Public TikTok videos and YouTube Shorts up to three minutes. Private, age-restricted and live videos can't be read.

Is this a YouTube Shorts script generator?

It works on Shorts, but it starts from a video that already exists and gives you that video's script. For a new script for your own product on the same structure, use Remix this video after the breakdown.

What if the video has no voiceover?

The script still lists every beat with what's on screen and the on-screen text. The voiceover column says “No speech” for those beats.

How exact are the timings?

They come from the breakdown of the actual video and are shown to the second. The shot list in the full report has every shot's start and end.

Is it free?

Yes. A few breakdowns a day without an account, and 5 a day with a free account.
