What a hook breakdown shows
The hook of our demo video, as the tool reports it: the type of hook, when it starts and ends, what was said, what was on screen, and why it holds attention.
Hook0:00–0:02
Result first“This grout was black two minutes ago.”
- On-screen text
- “I did NOT scrub this by hand”
- Visual
- Extreme close-up of a grout line that is half black, half bright white, with the scrubber head resting on the dividing line.
- Why it works
- It shows the payoff before the product, so the viewer's first question is 'how?' rather than 'what is this ad?'. The hard contrast line reads instantly even with the sound off, and the time claim sets a concrete expectation the rest of the video pays off.
A hook is more than the first line
Most hook generators hand you a list of opening sentences. On TikTok the first line is only part of the hook. The first frame, the text on screen and the sound land in the same second or two, and they often say different things.
In the demo above, the voice says the grout was black two minutes ago, the on-screen text says it wasn't scrubbed by hand, and the picture shows a line that is half dirty and half clean. Each one answers a different question the viewer might have before they scroll away.
The kinds of hook we see
Every breakdown names the hook type. In the short product videos we've broken down, result-first and shock-visual openings came up again and again: the payoff, or an image you don't expect, before any explanation. The Reddit-style story we studied opened on a conflict instead. Knowing the type lets you write your own hook without borrowing the words.
- Result first: show the end state, then explain how you got there
- Shock visual: an image that stops the thumb before the viewer knows why
- Controversy: a claim the viewer wants to argue with
- Relatable POV: a moment the viewer recognizes from their own day
- Also tagged: question, bold claim, pain point, curiosity gap, demonstration, social proof
From one hook to three for your product
After the breakdown, choose Remix this video, sign in and add a short brief about your product. You get a full script with three hooks in different styles, so you can test them against each other instead of guessing.
It's free for signed-in users, 5 scripts a day on the free plan. If one hook works, render it as a template video for 1 credit, or film it yourself using the shot notes.
Which hooks are worth learning from
Pick hooks from videos that beat their creator's usual views, not just videos from big accounts. A big account gets views on almost anything; an outlier suggests the opening did the work.
Then check that it fits your product. A result-first hook needs a result you can show in one frame. If yours takes a week to see, a relatable problem or a question will be more honest, and honest hooks get fewer angry comments.

Hook generator questions
Is the hook generator free?
Yes. The hook breakdown is free without an account. Hooks for your product come with the free script: 5 a day on the free plan when you sign in.
How long should a TikTok hook be?
There is no fixed rule. In the short product videos we've broken down, the hook was over within the first five seconds, often much sooner. The report shows the exact start and end of the hook in every video you analyze.
Can it write hooks without a reference video?
No. It always starts from a video you choose, so each hook has a model that has already worked once. If you only need a list of opening lines, a text generator is quicker.
Does it explain why a hook works?
Yes. Each breakdown has a short explanation of why the hook holds attention, next to the visual, the on-screen text and the spoken line.
Do the hooks copy the original?
They reuse the style of hook, not the words. Each one is written for the product in your brief.
